MPLAB PICkit 3 allows you to debug and program PIC® and dsPIC® Flash Microcontrollers using the powerful graphical user interface MPLAB Integrated Development Environment (IDE). MPLAB PICkit 3 connects to a computer using the full speed USB interface and can be connected to the target device via the Microchip connector for debugging (RJ-11) (MPLAB ICD 2, MPLAB ICD 3 and MPLAB REAL ICE compliant).
The PICkit3 programmer allows you to program in-circuit almost all Flash microcontrollers of Microchip. When new microcontrollers appear from the sitewww.microchip.com/pickit3you can download the software and firmware update for the PICkit3 programmer. Starting with MPLAB IDE 8.33, a utility is supplied for working with the PICkit3 programmer from the command line. The utility allows you to program all controllers that are supported by the latest version of PICkit 3. Using the start keys, you select the type of controller, set the supply voltage, give commands to read, program and verify Flash and EEPROM memory of microcontrollers. The utility can be used to integrate the programmer into automated systems, third-party code editors. The utility was tested for compatibility with Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista operating systems.
The PICkit3 programmer under the control of the MPLAB IDE development environment can perform the functions of an in-circuit debugger, i.e. allows you to run the program, step by step execution of commands, set breakpoints of the microcontroller, as well as view and change the state of special-purpose registers and RAM of the debugged PIC microcontroller.
